15th Street Viaduct

From Blake Street  looking West at the ramp of the 15th Street  Viaduct     1987

The 15th street viaduct was probably the most interesting of the viaducts. It was the only viaduct with auto traffic beneath it providing commerce to the sparse business area.

The viaduct's length was 8-10 blocks, from Blake Street to Little Raven Street.  In these first two photos, you are viewing the ramps at both ends of the viaduct.

We will now take a little journey under the viaduct.  You can view the dismantling of the viaduct and see how the powerful structure sliced through the area and over the rail yards.

The area would now be opened up to grade level access for residential and commercial development, moving the city forward in density and vitality.

On the east end of the viaduct you will see store fronts that are boarded up and abandoned. These buildings were at the Northeast and Southeast corners of the intersection of Wazee Street and 15th Street across the street from the Wazee Super Club.

From 100 Park Avenue, West Building.   Looking Southwest onto downtown     1997

From our balcony at 100 Park Avenue West, the view of downtown Denver was unbelievable!

We lived on the 17th floor on the Southwest corner; our view was from Pikes Peak to Longs Peak.

This image is a capsule of time, 7 years we lived at that address.  It was absolutely incredible.

In our view, below us, and above us, we witnessed...

  • Beginning and completion of Coors Field in 1992

  • Pope John Paul arriving by helicopter to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.   1993

  • The trial of the United States District Court vs the defendant Timothy McVeigh - 6 blocks away.   1995

  • Comet Hyakutake streaking across the sky.   1996

  • Our marriage on the entire 21st floor.   1999

What a view, what an incredible time, picture that.
